The Gardener

Once upon a time...

... a rich man decided to grow a garden.  Tragically, the beautiful landscape became filled with rocks... covered with weeds... and infested with pests.  Though he could have hired all the workers he needed, he gave the job to his beloved son... for he knew his son’s heart.  He knew his son would grow the perfect garden…

The young gardener had to first break the ground and till the soil... but the ground was so hard and dry. He took his shovel and hoe and worked diligently from sunrise to sunset until one day he fell to his knees in exhaustion.  In his time of need, the heavens were opened... and soaking rains began to fall...

After the seeds were planted, the gardener nurtured them daily until one day they sprouted forth from the ground. The garden flourished and produced much. He called to his neighbors and they came and ate of his harvest.  Some began to join in the work, and a morning dove was seen and heard...

The gardener smiled as he gazed upon his overflowing fields. Although many hungry people were continually fed, the garden only grew more beautiful and bountiful.  Still... there was increasingly displeasure in his work... resentment... even anger.   As his heart began to break, a strong hand held his own…

The next day, liars and fools entered his garden and began beating him with his own tools.  He offered no resistance... and his friends and neighbors fled in fear. Though surrounded by bitter hatred, he prayed that his father would forgive their hardened hearts.  As his blood flowed, the skies darkened and ground itself began to tremble...

The morning bore witness to his dead body... and ravaged garden.  A renown sinner had seen it all... helplessly.  She had come every day to work in his garden... and had eaten freely of its rich bounty.  In fact, the good fruits had healed her from torment... had released her from demons!   After the evil men had departed, she gathered his dead body into her arms and cleansed it with her tears.  To a broken heart shines a healing Light...

Days later, she returned to where she had buried him  found the freshly turned ground now covered with great sunflowers.  Upon considering their beauty, she picked up the blood stained tools and began to work the garden.  As she remembered her friend, she heard his familiar voice.  In fact, he came to work right beside her...

She gathered all she could, and together they continued to work in the garden... just as they had been shown.   And the garden continued to bring forth great yields!   However, as generations came and went, things began to change.  As people forgot, the garden withered…

The garden is now in tatters.  Winter comes quickly now-a-days, but spring is always waiting. Though the gardener is often forgotten, he is never far away.  In fact, he is only a Remembrance away!  To you who seek to grow good fruits... he RUNS to you!

The gardener reminds us to be of good cheer... for his seeds are always good... and they will sprout forth again!  His garden was grown in time... but it will endure forever!
